Chicken

More of my leftover dress fabric and some blue felt, this time it's turned in to a taggie for baby Leila. I sewed chicken inside out, pinned the ribbons in and inserted a squeaker that I found in Lily's music basket but I think you can buy them from *most good craft stores* or something like that.
Sewing is improving bit by bit, still some unpicking had to be done and this Ikea material is kinda frayey.
Is that a word?
There are many more babies arriving this summer so watch this space for variations on a theme.

I have an enamel bowl thing going on at the moment.
I just needed to get that out in the open....

Lily and Wren Dress

Sewing is my new thing. I made my first dress (above) from some left over Ikea fabric and was so pleased that I have just finished the second one (below).

This fabric was from eBay and expensive so I only used 2 fat quarters and made it more of a shorter tunic top. If I can do this, then believe me anyone can. The pattern itself is very simple but it's the material that makes them so adorable.

Steiner Flower Fairy Instructions

Head: For this you will need stretchy white fabric, some cotton wool and thread. Make a rough ball, fill and tie.


Hat: Sew oblong of felt fabric around head, to create a cylinder shape. Trim length if necessary


Hat 2. Close cylinder by sewing up the back of the hat and round the top tightly (I inserted an extra bit of fabric for the point and stuffed hat a little with more cotton wool.)


Body: Sew running stitch along the top end of a rectangular piece of felt. Pull taut around neck and stitch in place. Finish by sewing the open sides up.


Petals: Sew through four (or as many as you choose!) petals, pull taut and attach round neck. Stuff body with cotton wool.


Voila!

Steiner Flower Fairies

These are the wee thing that first inspired me to start this blog. I saw them sitting on the Nature Table at our Steiner Mother and Toddler group and begged the teacher to show us how to make them. They are easy to make ( I can't sew) and all sorts of oddments can be harnessed in the making. These little ladies are made out of felt predominantly as one needs a fairly stiff fabric to help them stand up ... use you imagination or call upon the wealth of flowers in your garden to create new and different designs.
