Trio of Toy Taggies

Some new taggies for new babies, possibly one for my own...just trying out ideas and using up old scraps. Busy making the most of my free time before baby number 2 arrives :) I have a list of sewing projects to complete and time is ticking...

Baby Shoes

At least the little one will have some shoes to wear, if not a lot else.
Spring inspired booties made using a felted cardigan ( first time felting wool and I loved the results) plus some left over bits and bobs for the daisies. The pattern came from here and there is even a flickr group to show off your designs.

Easter

Easter basket for Wren this year included a wee Easter bunny I made adapting this idea but using vintage fabrics* and a pair of up cycled cords I no longer fit in to. I love the idea of re-using materials and hoard all sorts of torn and out-dated clothes to cut up and re-use, only problem is where to house them all?

*The printed fabrics are remnants my mother kept in her patchwork box and are both from old dresses I wore as a child.

Second Hand Rose

Last year I found a sad looking cabinet someone had put out for the rubbish and decided to re-vamp it. It was warped and made of horrible fake wood veneer, all the shelves were missing and the glass had been broken on one side.

Here is the finished article after much sanding and priming and painting and sawing and stitching and staple gunning. Wish I had bothered to take some 'before' and 'after' pics but you will just have to take my word for it that it looks much better now.

Mobile for Beeba Baby

Here is the beautiful bird mobile pattern from Spool if you would like to have a go. Balancing the birdies was the hard part but it is well worth the effort. I used red embroidery thread to sew the birds on to the branches and several strands of fishing wire to attach the branches together. I found out a bit too late that it helps if you fill the birds up with a little rice too.

Finally I got round to making the matching oven gloves...

Pinny

Lily requested an apron and here it is.
Fabrics from eBay and cheap as chips, been wondering what to make out of them.
I am especially proud that I made up the pattern, using one of Lily's coats as a guide, and then found the patience to bind it all the way round.

Bunting Fever

You gotta love bunting.

I brought the wooden hearts from a great company on eBay, painted them and strung them together on good-old rustic garden twine.


The large fabric bunting now adorns Lily's room but I intend to make a garden-friendly set to cheer up our sad-looking yard.


The mini set is the most recent and is destined to be gifted to Maisie on the occasion of her first birthday.

Baby Vests

More babies, more gifts.
I bought this great stuff for making iron on patches, it's called something along the lines of 'bondaweb'. Means you can customise just about most things, plain vests and T-shirts are perfect.

You draw your motif on to the smooth side of the bondaweb, cut roughly round it. Iron on to wrong side of fabric, cut out motif properly. Peel off backing paper and then iron on to fabric through a damp tea towel.

I finished these off on the sewing machine with some ziz-zag stitch. I need more practice round corners so simple shapes work best for beginners. The bird's tail is just bits of old ribbon sewn in.
These will go to Agatha Rose, a little later than planned so I am hoping they will still fit.

Ravioli

I have been inspired to have a go at making felt food after seeing some lovely, but expensive Haba ravioli on the Internet. It was pretty straight forward to sew especially as I started off with the easy stuff, broccoli might take a little more time and effort ;) . I stuffed them lightly with filling so they have some '3Dness'.
Lily is pretty stuck on her home corner so any new produce is always welcome. There are two sets of everything, one for my girl and one for my goddaughter, Wren.
