Puppets

There has been a lot of puppeteering going on in our house recently and since Lily was so poorly she missed The Magician's Daughter we decided it was about time we made our own.

Lily was keen to make the 12 dancing princesses but for the moment we will have to make do with two. Just card and lolly sticks (and some exquisite
painting and stickering by my daughter). Would very much like to make a shadow puppet theatre next and perhaps put on a little show...

Shelves

I finally sorted out a way for Samuel to access his books easily.
Ikea spice rack shelves have worked a treat! A bargain at £3.99 each.

Stolen from here or should I say repurposed.

I think it's a success.

Headbands

I got slightly obsessed by pinterest, which is where I saw this....and got to thinking they might be used to make cute Christmas presents.

So I made lots.
My spirals are much more wavy and I varied the thickness to produce more of an uneven 'rose'. I'm not in to perfection, as you might have noticed.

Then I just glued them on to bog standard headbands with my trusty glue gun.

Lily likes them so I'm hoping others will too.

Bunting Purse

Purse design courtesy of Poppy Treffry, found in her book. Thought they might make great presents and once you have done one they are a breeze, even for a novice like me.

The Princess Party

The Invitations

The Party Favours (Peg Doll Princesses)

More Party Favours (Recycled Crayons)

The Princess Crowns

The Cupcakes

The 'Pin The Kiss on The Frog Prince' Game

The Cardboard Castle

The Cake.

The Party was a great success, we only invited 4 little girls (as Lily was 4) so it made everything totally 'do-able'. I also made hair clips for favours (see below) and sewed little party bags with their initials appliqued on the front. We played 'Hunt the King's Treasure' in the sandpit where the girls dug for necklaces and bubble mixture, which were also popped in to the bags at the end. The party game presents were all fairy tale books illustrated by Jane Ray whose artwork is just beautiful. I can not take credit for a) the cardboard castle or b) the birthday cake, although I would dearly like to.

Clips

Here is a very easy felt hair clip tutorial...

All you need is some felt, offcuts will do, some plain slides and buttons and of course some thread...
I drew the petals free hand but here are some ideas.

I have sewn the felt flowers very tightly on to the clip and then reinforced it with some PVA glue.
There are some great (and probably clearer, more detailed) tutorials out there, here's one and here's another.
